ABOUT IEAQC

IEAQC, a Florida Not-For-Profit organization, was birthed within the Indoor Air Quality industry by the need to provide the Indoor Environmental Air Quality industry professionals, and its consumers, with the highest level of professionalism and intergrity by which it is expected to operate.

Looking at the needs and current state of many of those who practice in this space, IEAQC determined that it would set itself apart by imlementing the industry's first and only true No Conflict Of Interest Code Of Ethics along with the HIGHEST LEVEL OF EDUCATION (college based) which would be the foundation for it's members.

IEAQC then looked at the educational aspect of the Indoor Environmental Air Quality industry and proceeded to again set standards by which members would need to have been educated.

IEAQC moved forward and set a new standard for certification and developed alongside of industry professionals MINIMUM CRITERIA expected of it's members. This included not accepting into its membership those whos sole IAQ education was that of a 4 or 8 hour laboratory sponsored workshop certification.

In early 2007 the IEAQC Board Of Directors again set the bar by enlisting the expertise of one of its own, Dr. Richard McMonagle, to author the industry's first and only college level curriculum for a new designation which would encompass the depth of the required level of education needed to adequately perform Indoor Air Quality Assessments. This college level course is set to begin in the Summer 2008 at Miami-Dade College North Campus.

The vision and mission of IEAQC can be summed up in it's slogan:

"More than an Industry Designation...a Dedication to Industry"

Dear IEP

It would seem that we both share the same passion for the future generation of this industry by your desire to know more about IEAQC.

I, as have possibly you and many others, have made substantial commitments and investments of both dollars and sweat into IAQ education and vocation.

So, don't grow faint in reading this...the beginning may sting a little, but the end of this letter will give you the hope and encouragement to press on to the goal of professional recognition and accreditation.

What sets IEAQC apart?

WOW...where to start? Let start this way...the IEAQC college based curriculum was designed and engineered to:

1.   Educate and prepare the next generation IEP's

2.   Bring existing IEP's up to the level of proficiency expected, required, and deserved by the consumer.

3.   Prepare for, provide for, and to go beyond any requirements which may be suggested by any City, State, or Federal Gov't

Governments are, as of late, being made to take notice and begin to protect consumers, life, and property, from those within the IAQ industry whose sole source of "professional" "education" is based on a provider whose singular objective is that of lining their pockets by pumping out "CMI's", "CMA's", and "CMR's" designed to be a conduit of additional revenues for the provider. In some, if not many, cases CMI's and CMA's are simply sales reps for labs serving to procure future samples by which the lab survives, as are some, if not many, CMR's whose goals are to provide the "certifying body" with licensed application of their products. This is simply CHOCKED FULL OF CONFLICTS OF INTEREST.

Next is the very real threat to your and my desire and obligation to provide for our families via the vocation we have selected. This threat is coming from multiple directions:

1. Law makers are inept in most cases, and in others simply uneducated as to the IAQ industry. As such, they are at the whim of self-seeking outside PRIVATE SECTOR sources bent on their personal agendas. To this end they implement, or try to, rules and regulations which are either unrealistic or simply bandaids for amputations.

2. Insurance companies rightly deserved lack of trust in individuals who’s sole education is a week or weekend course in a hotel given by a organization which also is the certifying body as well as has a stake in the individual's future revenues. If you think about it, they (insurance companies)are the ones whom will need to fund decisions made by these ill equipped and trained "professionals" when they "assess" an insured property. As such, this industry has become the front runners in placing the Industrial Hygienists as the trusted trade professional...in some cases these same CIH's are ill equipped or trained for the challenges of IAQ concernes within a structure and in others the Building Sciences.

3.  Insurance companies again! Knowing what they do from the statement above, they understand the threat of insuring those same so called CMI, CMA, and CMR's who are the very ones in cases making improper and often misguided recommendations based on limited, if any, knowledge of Bioaerosols, Moisture, Microbes (molds) and the possible Health Effects of Exposure to Fungal (mold) contamination.

4. John Q Public. Tainted by the bombardment of misinformation, unrealistic threat to health and property, unprofessional and border unlawful trade, and lack of education, John Q's involvement and history with the IAQ industry in many cases is marred by the failure of the "IEP" to support, help, and protect the needs and property of John Q. In the end, causing John Q to resort to a misdirected and often damaging view of the IAQ professional.

As you can see, currently the industry regards Industrial Hygienists as the TOP FEEDERS and EXPERTS in a space they were never designed to operate in. By so doing, our designations have been beaten down by this, and as time goes on we will be further punnished and pushed to the side. AND THAT IS WHERE WE COME IN!!

Our courses requiements were designed to give back the IAQ industry to the IEP by providing the FIRST competent education and accreditation for the IEP at a college level. And by so doing, effectively and deservingly return the trust into the IEP and away from the CIH. What follows is the Industry, Governments, and Insurance Providers returning the jobs and trust to these NEW ACCREDITED IEAQC Hygienists.

We, IEAQC, are in no way dispelling or dismissing the CMI, CMA, or CMA…as a matter of fact those who desire to receive the IEAQC Hygienist Accreditation MUST have completed an approved CMI, CMA, and/or CMR course. If not, they will be required to take the courses at the college level.

In the end, this is an investment in your future. Let's be real...would you trust a person to operate on your family who's only medical education was a week in a hotel given by the Drug Company?

Regarding location...Miami-Dade College has given permission to take this course of study on the road...and so we, IEAQC, are working very hard to set up 4 to 6 strategic locations based on IEP demographics where the curriculum can be taught at an accelerated pace. Each of the 10+ courses are designed to provide the IEP student ample education sufficient to demonstrate a Practicum of Competency in the IAQ profession, thus culminating in the award of the IEAQC Accreditation of Hygienist upon the student.

In concluding, this new direction, vision, and total commitment to the IEP and IAQ industry is by no means designed to happen in a week, or even month. After all, with knowledge comes great responsibility. This IEAQC Accreditation of Hygienist will require close to 350 college hours of training. But in the end, you will join the ranks of Hygienist and as such demand and deserve the respect afforded by the IAQ industry to only a few. And should the State Of Florida or any other Government seek to impose education upon our industry, they will never ask for more than a college level education in the field of licensing...yet this IEAQC Accreditation post college based curricullum may be for them the safest and only way to guard their "implied endorsement by virtue of awarding a license to operate" as a IEP. In other words...we are hoping that this FLORIDA COLLEGE BASED CURRICULUM for IEP's will become the safe answer for DBPR and other law makers' stumbling block as to a proficient Standard of Education to require of Florida IEP's.

Regards,

Harvey Gordon - President
